What Is an Administrative Boundary?

In the world of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), locations are not just points on a map. They are Polygons. An administrative boundary represents the legal perimeter of a jurisdiction—whether it's the city limits of Melbourne, the border of a state like California, or the designated perimeter of a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Standard mapping tools often rely on "Point Data" (Latitude and Longitude). While points are excellent for navigation, they are terrible for storytelling. A point has no scale. A polygon, however, tells the viewer exactly how large a place is in relation to its surroundings. This is the foundation of Spatial Integrity.

To ensure the engine finds the "Authority Polygon," you must follow the Naming Precision Rule. If you are too broad, you might get a fallback circle. If you are too specific with non-standard naming, the engine might find a point instead of a boundary. Mastering this protocol is the key to consistent high-fidelity results.

Naming Strategy for GIS Accuracy

Major CitiesUse the city name and country code (e.g., 'London, UK'). This ensures city limits are resolved.
National ParksAlways include the full formal title (e.g., 'Yosemite National Park'). Avoid 'Yosemite' alone.
NeighborhoodsUse the local administrative name (e.g., 'Brooklyn, NY'). The engine will resolve the borough limits.
IslandsInclude the word Island if it's a specific territory (e.g., 'Bali, Indonesia').

The Fallback Logic: Points vs. Circles

Visual Styling: Glows vs. Fills
