Most free mapping tools utilize standardized tile sets designed for mobile navigation, which often appear pixelated or "flat" when the camera dives to a 55-degree pitch.

To achieve true 1080p or 4K resolution, you must connect to a professional imagery provider. Mapbox is the industry gold standard for this, providing the high-resolution satellite tiles and vector metadata used by major news organizations and filmmakers. The MapFlyover engine is built to handle complex parabolic motion, but it requires high-fidelity "Fuel" to run. Mapbox provides Raster Satellite Tiles that are optimized for high-performance rendering. This means when your camera is orbiting a mountain range, the engine can fetch specialized tiles that preserve the detail of the terrain mesh.

Without a Mapbox token, our engine defaults to standard ESRI satellite layers. While these are excellent for testing and regional overviews, they lack the global consistency and extreme zoom-level detail required for high-end listing videos or travel recaps.    Visit Mapbox.com and sign up for a free developer account. You will not be charged for initial use, and no credit card is required to access the basic free tier allowance.

   Access the Token Dashboard

   Once logged in, navigate to your Account Dashboard. Here, you will see a section titled 'Access Tokens.' Mapbox generates a 'Default Public Token' for you automatically.

   Verify Scopes

   Ensure your token has the 'styles:read' and 'fonts:read' scopes enabled. These are the default settings for a public token and are required for our engine to fetch the satellite layers.

   Integrate with MapFlyover

   Copy your token (starting with 'pk.'). Open your MapFlyover Studio, navigate to Settings, and paste the token into the 'Mapbox Access Token' field. Click 'Synchronize' to save your infrastructure settings.

One of the biggest friction points for new creators is the fear of unexpected billing. However, Mapbox offers one of the most generous free tiers in the industry.

For "Static Imagery" and "Vector Tiles"—the data our engine uses—the free tier typically covers up to 50,000 to 200,000 requests per month. For an average creator producing one or two videos a day, you are highly unlikely to ever exceed these limits. This means you can achieve professional documentary-grade visuals at a $0 cost for your data infrastructure.

We recommend checking your Mapbox usage dashboard once a week during your first month. This provides total transparency and allows you to scale your production volume with confidence.

Connecting a Mapbox token doesn't just change the textures; it changes the Rendering Logic. When the engine detects a professional token, it unlocks the ability to request 'retina' (2x) scale tiles. This is what makes a 1080p export look genuinely high-definition.
